WC and Cloakroom Renovation

Project Overview

This project involved restoring and redesigning two separate but connected spaces: a ground floor WC and an adjacent cloakroom in a grand Georgian home. Both rooms were well used spaces and over time had become cold, tired, and impractical for daily use.

The clients wanted the spaces to feel welcoming and enjoyable to use, not forgotten corners of an otherwise beautiful house. Together, we restored warmth, function, and a sense of care, using thoughtful details that respected the original architecture while adding modern comfort.

The Challenge

The WC had some character, but it lacked warmth and felt forgotten, the room was cold, some features were old and broken. The rest of the house had been styled and renovated previously and expressed the client’s personality, they wanted the same in their downstairs WC.

What We Did

The transformation began with Chris suggesting panelling for the WC, which sparked a creative collaboration. The clients loved the idea, and also chose to install decorative cornicing to echo the home’s original features.

In the WC, we removed the toilet, sink, floor tiles, pipework, and radiator, then stripped wallpaper and prepared the walls. We added insulation to the external wall, fitted a new electric radiator, and installed updated sanitaryware and accessories. The walls, ceiling, and panelling were painted in colour-matched Farrow & Ball shades that reflected the clients’ bold design vision.

Across the hall, the cloakroom also received care and attention. We repaired the walls, fitted a new heater, and painted the space in warm, complementary tones to bring continuity between the two rooms.

The Result

The two spaces now feel complete, functioning, and welcoming. The WC has become one of the stand-out rooms in the house, full of warmth, depth, and Georgian character. The clients styled it beautifully after the renovation, adding art, mirrors, and a beautiful plant stand to make the space feel like a destination, not an afterthought.

The cloakroom now feels equally well-resolved — a practical, tidy space that no longer lets the home down. The new radiators and insulation in both rooms have transformed how comfortable they feel year-round.

We have overhauled alot in our house but the downstairs toilet was long overdue. Elevate transformed it in a way we could not have anticipated for such a small room. The style and colour complimented perfectly the pictures. And the small details like the soap holder and use of brass, perfect
